An award-winning interpreter of musical theatre and crossover repertoire, Katherine Riddle is making her mark on stages across the U.S. and abroad with her “crystal-clear soprano” and “strong acting chops.” Known for her sparkling tone and compelling performances, she has appeared in theatres, opera houses, and concert halls worldwide.
Katherine has collaborated with some of today’s most visionary directors, including Mary Zimmerman, Francesca Zambello, Sarna Lapine, Marlo Hunter, Matthew Gardiner, and Lee Sunday Evans. Her credits include performances with Tony Award-winning regional theatres such as the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Arena Stage, and Signature Theatre, as well as the internationally acclaimed Glimmerglass Festival and the New London Barn Playhouse—one of the longest-running summer stock theatres in the country.
Katherine was awarded the Marc Blitzstein Award in the prestigious Lotte Lenya Competition (2019), recognized as a quarterfinalist in the American Traditions Vocal Competition (2019), first place in the NSAL Musical Theatre Competition (DC), and second place in the Hal Leonard Musical Theatre Competition.
A passionate advocate for new works, Katherine frequently collaborates with today’s leading composers. She has been part of several high-profile premieres and developmental workshops, including MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient Heather Christian’s A Wrinkle in Time (Arena Stage), Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich’s Ever After (Phoenix Theatre Company), and Bryan Perri’s original composition Few Words (ACT of Connecticut).
Katherine’s solo work has been featured in thoughtfully curated programs at The Kennedy Center, The Green Room 42, and The Duplex. As a concert soloist, she has performed with the American Pops Orchestra, the Fairfax Symphony, Signature Theatre, the West Virginia Symphony, the Vladimir Symphony, and the B-A-C-H Orchestra in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
In addition to her performing career, Katherine is a passionate educator. She has taught at the collegiate level at American University and Princeton University and maintains a thriving private voice studio. Her students have been selected as soloists in All-State Choirs, named winners in National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competitions, accepted to prestigious training programs like the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and awarded scholarships and internships with top regional theatres and opera companies. She also teaches a music theory course for actors—helping demystify musical concepts and giving performers the tools they need to feel confident in auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
Katherine splits her time between New York City and Washington, D.C., with her husband, Ian, and their Norwich Terrier, Howard. You can often spot her on the road between the two cities in her signature pink Volkswagen Beetle with a plaid interior.
